Hey Lykkers, have you ever dreamt of standing by a crystal-clear lake surrounded by snow-capped mountains?

Well, join us as we take you to Bachalpsee, one of Switzerland’s most picturesque alpine lakes! You’re going to love the breathtaking scenery and the peaceful hike that leads to this hidden gem.

The Journey to Bachalpsee

Our adventure began in the town of Grindelwald, where we took the cable car up to First Station. From there, it was a moderate 50-minute hike to reach Bachalpsee. The trail winds through lush meadows, offering stunning views of the Swiss Alps. We loved how peaceful the hike was, with wildflowers dotting the landscape and distant mountain peaks forming a majestic backdrop. The best part? The lake’s reflection of the mighty Schreckhorn mountain—it’s like walking into a postcard!

Bachalpsee itself is a small, serene lake that lies at an elevation of 2,265 meters. The calm, reflective waters and the crisp mountain air made it a perfect spot to relax and take photos. The area is free to visit and is open year-round, though hiking is best from June to October. In winter, snow covers the trail, making it more challenging. The surrounding area is perfect for a quiet picnic or a quick snack, with benches strategically placed to enjoy the best views.

Practical Information for Visiting Bachalpsee

Getting to Bachalpsee is an easy trip from Grindelwald. Take the First Gondola, which operates daily from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with a round-trip ticket costing around CHF 64. The hike is accessible to most people but bring sturdy hiking shoes and water. Don’t forget sunscreen, as the high altitude means more intense sun exposure.

For those who want to take it slow, there are guided hikes available in summer, providing more details on the flora and fauna of the region. We found it exciting to learn about the mountain’s ecosystem, adding a layer of appreciation to the stunning surroundings.

Enjoy Local Delicacies in Grindelwald

After a rewarding hike, we treated ourselves to some delicious local food in Grindelwald. One of our favorites was a traditional Swiss dish, Älplermagronen, a type of Swiss macaroni served with a creamy cheese sauce, potatoes, and applesauce. It costs around CHF 20–25 at local restaurants and is the perfect comfort food after a day in the mountains. Another great choice is Rösti, a crispy potato dish that pairs well with fresh vegetables or eggs, priced at about CHF 15–20.

Stay at Hotel Gletschergarten

For an unforgettable stay, we recommend the charming Hotel Gletschergarten in Grindelwald. Located just a short walk from the cable car station, this family-run hotel offers cozy rooms with stunning views of the surrounding mountains. Rooms start at CHF 180 per night, and the hotel provides a hearty breakfast to fuel your hiking adventures. The staff is incredibly welcoming, and the hotel has a rich history dating back over a century, making it an ideal choice for those seeking a blend of comfort and tradition.

Visiting Bachalpsee was a truly memorable experience, and we highly recommend it to our Lykkers! Whether you're an avid hiker or just looking for a peaceful escape in nature, this serene lake offers something for everyone.

With its accessible trails, stunning views, and nearby culinary delights, it’s a destination worth adding to your travel list. Would you join us on this alpine adventure, Lykkers? Let’s explore the beauty of Switzerland together!
