Ever heard of a tower that glows at night and tells a story through letters? Right by the sea in Batumi, Georgia, there’s a shining spiral called the Alphabetic Tower — and it’s unlike anything we’ve seen before.
This unique tower blends culture, language, and modern design in one tall, glowing sculpture. Let’s take a closer look at what makes it so special and how we can visit it smoothly.
Standing 130 meters (430 feet) tall, the Alphabetic Tower is one of Batumi’s most iconic landmarks. Built in 2011, this tower celebrates the Georgian alphabet, one of the oldest and most unique writing systems in the world. Its design looks like a DNA double helix, symbolizing how deeply the language is part of the country’s identity. Each twist of the tower carries a huge silver letter — there are 33 letters in total, each standing 4 meters high, made of aluminum.
At night, the entire tower glows with colorful lights that reflect beautifully against the Black Sea. It’s not just a building — it’s a piece of art.
The tower is located in Miracle Park, right on the seafront promenade in Batumi. This area is full of attractions like the Ali and Nino moving statue, Batumi Ferris Wheel, and the Lighthouse, so we can easily spend a few hours here exploring.
Getting there:
- From Batumi city center: It’s a 15-minute walk along the scenic boulevard.
- By taxi: A ride from most parts of the city costs around $2–$3 USD.
- By public transport: Bus lines #10 or #17 stop nearby, and the fare is just $0.30 USD.
- From Batumi Airport: A 15-minute taxi ride, costing about $7–$10 USD.
The outside of the tower is open to everyone, day and night, and looks especially stunning after sunset. But if we want to go inside and reach the top, we need to follow these opening hours and ticket info:
- Opening Hours:Daily, from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM
(Times might shift slightly in winter or during maintenance)
Tickets:
- Adults: $5 USD
- Children under 12: $2.50 USD
- Children under 6: Free
- Guided tours (optional): Around $10 USD per person
The tower isn’t just for looking at — it’s for exploring too. Once inside, we can take a transparent elevator that glides us to the top in under a minute. At the top is a 360-degree viewing platform that offers breathtaking views of the Batumi skyline, Black Sea, and nearby mountains.
There are also touchscreens and info displays about the Georgian alphabet, letting us learn the history behind each letter while enjoying the scenery.
Timing can make a big difference for views and crowd size. Here's what we recommend:
- Best season: April to June or September to early November — the weather is pleasant and there are fewer crowds.
- Best time of day: Around 5:30 PM to sunset, so we can enjoy both the day view and see the tower light up at night.
- Avoid: Rainy or foggy days — visibility at the top isn’t great when it’s cloudy.
1. Buy tickets early in the day, especially during weekends and summer.
2. Bring a camera — sunset shots here are magical!
3. Wear comfortable shoes — Miracle Park is great for walking.
4. Stay after dark — the tower’s LED light show starts around dusk.
5. Combine your visit with the nearby dancing fountains and seaside cafes.
The Alphabetic Tower is more than a tourist stop — it’s a symbol of how Georgia connects its past with the present. It’s rare to find a landmark that’s both educational and visually stunning. We get to learn, enjoy, and experience all in one place.
