When predicting the top interior design trends for 2025, many designers highlighted similar themes like wellness, comfort, and relaxation.
These trends feel especially fitting after a turbulent election year, as people seek spaces in their homes where they can unwind and recharge.
With these elements in mind, interior design for 2025 will reflect the earth’s grounding qualities. Expect to see more natural tones and materials, creating nurturing, enduring spaces that are both comforting and a bit unexpected!
As the demand for wellness-focused home environments continues to rise, designers are increasingly focusing on creating spaces that promote physical and mental well-being. Designer Nicole Hollis observes that clients are seeking dedicated wellness areas, including spas, gyms, and water circuits, with additions like sauna steam rooms and cold plunges becoming more common.
However, wellness spaces don’t always require a large footprint. Brigette Romanek notes the growing popularity of smaller, private spaces like quiet reading nooks or wellness rooms where individuals can unwind and focus on self-care. Julien Sebban adds that even meditation alcoves are being designed as personal sanctuaries within homes, offering peaceful retreats for relaxation and rejuvenation.
The use of ceramics and clay is showing no signs of fading as designers continue to embrace their tactile and natural appeal. In the Wisconsin lake house designed by Victoria Sass, custom ceramic tiles arranged in a checked pattern create a striking feature in the powder room. Nicole Hollis predicts continued incorporation of ceramic materials such as lighting, tables, fireplace surrounds, and mirrors in interiors.
Julien Sebban highlights a growing appreciation for clay-based products and natural plasters, not only for their aesthetic and tactile qualities but also for their environmental benefits. These materials add a grounded, earthy touch to homes while supporting sustainable design practices.
For 2025, earthy tones, particularly various shades of brown, will continue to reign in interior design. As Tiffany Howell from Night Palm points out, brown’s versatility allows it to serve as both a soft neutral or a rich, moody hue, creating a connection to nature that aligns with current trends. Brigette Romanek adds that clay-toned browns, in particular, bring warmth and a natural feel to spaces, making them ideal for creating a grounded atmosphere.
Beyond brown, earth tones like deep burgundy, navy blue, saturated greens, and terracotta will dominate interiors. Nicole Hollis predicts these hues will add sophistication and depth to both residential and commercial spaces.
Julien Sebban also notes the growing popularity of soft greens and muted blues, which evoke a sense of calm and wellness. These colors are expected to be especially prevalent in spaces designed for relaxation and introspection.
Designer Rita Konig shares her affinity for sienna-inspired palettes, such as ochre yellow and warm orange, colors that evoke the essence of the earth. Warm blues, she believes, will remain timeless and joyful, as they create a sense of tranquility and happiness within any room.
A growing trend in interior design points to a return to classic, structured furniture, moving away from overly curved and minimalist pieces. Designer Jeremiah Brent predicts that we'll see a shift from soft, rounded shapes to more defined, structured designs. "Modern minimalism will take a backseat," he says, with a greater focus on patterns and timeless furniture shapes.
Lighting is evolving from a purely functional element to a central, artistic feature in home design. Brigette Romanek explains that clients are increasingly seeking lighting fixtures that act as statement pieces, influencing the mood of the entire room.
Designers are embracing sculptural lighting fixtures, with designs that double as works of art. Julien Sebban sees this shift as a new chapter for lighting, with pieces becoming more dynamic and engaging. Tiffany Howell adds that people are exploring more unconventional ways to incorporate lighting into their homes, using it as an artistic, playful element rather than sticking to traditional forms.
