Hey, Lykkers! Have you ever stumbled upon a hidden gem off the beaten path? We recently discovered Mae Suai District in Thailand, and it’s a destination worth sharing with you.
Nestled in the mountains of Chiang Rai, Mae Suai is full of lush greenery, stunning landscapes, and vibrant culture—perfect for those seeking an authentic and tranquil adventure.
One of the most fascinating spots we visited in Mae Suai was the Golden Triangle, where the borders of Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar converge. Standing on the edge of this famous region, we marveled at the panoramic views of three countries coming together, with the mighty Mekong River flowing below. The Golden Triangle is rich in history and has long been a key trade route. We spent time at the Golden Triangle Park, where there’s a museum that tells the story of the area’s importance. The park is open daily from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and entry is free! While you’re here, we recommend a boat ride along the river, which costs around 200 THB per person.
Another highlight of Mae Suai is its bustling local markets and scenic waterfalls. We wandered through the Mae Suai Market, where we found colorful local handicrafts, fresh produce, and unique street food. It’s a perfect spot to pick up souvenirs or just immerse yourself in the local culture. After exploring the market, we headed to the nearby Thung Teao Forest Natural Park. The park is home to the stunning Blue Pool, a crystal-clear natural spring surrounded by dense jungle. The water here is so clear, it almost looks like a painting! The park is open from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and tickets cost 50 THB for adults and 20 THB for children. We took a peaceful walk through the forest and found the Blue Pool to be an absolute highlight of our trip.

Mae Suai is a beautiful but somewhat remote area, so it’s important to plan accordingly. The weather here can be unpredictable, with cool mornings and evenings, especially in the mountains, so packing a jacket is essential. We also recommend renting a car or hiring a local guide to explore the area, as public transportation options are limited. For accommodations, there are several guesthouses and boutique hotels with prices starting at around 500 THB per night for a basic room. If you’re planning to visit Mae Suai, make sure to bring cash, as many places do not accept credit cards.
Mae Suai District truly offers a unique and peaceful escape from the more tourist-heavy spots in Thailand. Whether you’re exploring the Golden Triangle, hiking through lush forests, or shopping at the vibrant markets, this area offers something for everyone. We had an unforgettable experience and can’t wait for you to explore it for yourselves!
