Our Beach Hopping Journey
Our journey began in Dubrovnik, often referred to as the “Pearl of the Adriatic.” The moment we arrived, we were captivated by the stunning Old Town and the vibrant blue waters surrounding it. One of the must-visit beaches in Dubrovnik is Banje Beach. Located just a short walk from the city center, this pebble beach offers incredible views of the city walls. We spent a relaxing afternoon here, soaking up the sun and enjoying a refreshing dip in the Adriatic Sea.
Banje Beach is open year-round, and while there’s no entry fee, we did opt to rent a sunbed for 100 HRK (about $15) for the day. The beach is lined with beach restaurants, making it easy to grab a bite to eat or a drink.
Hidden Gems: Sandy Beaches
Next, we ventured to Zlatni Rat Beach on the island of Brač, known for its unique triangular shape. This beach is famous for its golden pebbles and crystal-clear waters. The natural beauty here is simply breathtaking. We spent hours swimming and sunbathing, taking breaks to enjoy local ice cream from a nearby stand for about 20 HRK ($3).
Zlatni Rat is a popular spot for water sports, and we decided to try windsurfing. The rental for gear was around 250 HRK ($37) for a few hours, and it was an exhilarating experience! The beach has lifeguards on duty, ensuring a safe environment for all visitors.
Delicious Local Cuisine
After a long day at the beach, we were eager to try some local Croatian cuisine. We discovered a quaint restaurant near Zlatni Rat called Pizzeria Caffe Pino. We ordered their famous seafood risotto, which was packed with fresh shrimp and mussels, for 90 HRK ($13). It was delicious! We also couldn’t resist sharing a plate of grilled octopus, priced at 120 HRK ($18), which was tender and flavorful.
Where to Stay
For our stay, we chose Hotel Elaphusa, located just a short drive from Zlatni Rat Beach. This charming hotel offered comfortable accommodations with stunning views of the sea. The rates were quite reasonable, starting at 800 HRK ($120) per night, including breakfast. The hotel also had a lovely pool area and wellness center, perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring.
Practical Tips for Visiting Croatian Beaches
Best Time to Visit: The ideal time to explore Croatian beaches is between late May and early September when the weather is warm, and the water is inviting.
Transportation: Renting a car is a great way to explore different beach locations at your own pace. Ferries are also available to connect to various islands.
Beach Essentials: Don’t forget to pack sunscreen, a hat, and plenty of water to stay hydrated. Beach shoes can be helpful for pebbly beaches.
